It's that time of year again! (also RIP to the Blue Jackets) For the new comers, one of the added bonuses of this league is our custom schedule, punctuated by divisional rivalries. In common fashion, I need pre-season rankings/projections from each manager in the league. The schedule is a direct result of how teams are ranked pre-season. One example is that the 4 teams projected to win their respective divisions will all face each other in the final 3 weeks in a race for the Presidents Trophy. Different from past years, the projected bottom 4 teams will not play each other in the final 3 weeks anymore - we want to stay as far away as possible from anybody accusing others of tanking in the final weeks. As a reminder, the ranking format is: 1-4: Divisional champions, in order of best to worst record 5-16: Rest of league in order best to worst Keep in mind, while Team 5 may be better than Team 2, we still want 1-4 to be the Division winners. SO! Get to know your fellow competitors inside and out, and PM me your rankings by FRIDAY AUGUST 25TH AT 11:59PM please & thank you!
The sooner I get all the rankings, the sooner I can get you guys a schedule and everyone can start getting excited!

Projection is more difficult this year than in a long time!
Also, it would be interesting to know who was the most accurate "projector" from last year. We should put a small wager on who can get the closest to actual results each year.

Jeez...um, I could probably make an argument on how each team could make the playoffs and how each team could miss. This year is crazy close, especially with the three new owners who took over playoff calibre teams and will actually be active enough to make them better then their previous owners. I'll be honest, my choices ended up being slightly bias because I own some teams 1sts and I want them to miss the playoffs 1.) Minny - Sure we owned them in the playoffs, but we ain't talking playoffs here, just regular season, so I'll concede that the Wild will be good enough to win the Presidents before they choke in the playoffs 2.) LA - Really wanted the Kings to drop down here, but they still have the studs players and a healthy quick gives them the goaltending they need. They will battle it out with the Wild til the final week for the Presidents. 3.) Montreal - Montreal finds themselves in a very healthy division and points will be harder to come by then the past couple years. Talented team that could win it all. 4.) NY Isles - Armando has shown he can still hold with the best. Has an aging team, but balanced with some good youth. Isles have been very good at rebuilding on the fly and staying competitive year after year. Think this division will be tight though from top to bottom. 5.) Toronto - New Ownership, and great goaltending will carry them. They will give Montreal a run for their money. 6.) Flyers - I really like the talent on the new teams, think these guys all come out flying. Great goaltending does so much and now there are owners who will start them regularly! 7.) Knights - Keeping with the new ownership theme I'll stick the Knights in 7th. Too much skill for them not to make the playoffs. 8.) Stars - The Stars have never missed the playoffs, Its a transition year, but what kinda owner would I be if I projected myself to miss....I'll sneak in 9.) Flames - They won the championship this past season, probably should have them rated higher, but I'll project some bad luck and injuries as well as a very tough division.... I also own their first so might have a little wishful thinking playing here. 10.) St.Louis - Blues are gonna be a force very very soon. If their youth takes off this season they could spell trouble for the rest of the central. 11.) Rangers - Tough division, and really everyone from 4th to 16th could get shuffled. 12.) Devils - Worst set of injuries ever in fantasy hockey dropped them back last year, need to see a healthy season before we move them back into the playoff picture, but its close. 13.) Avalanche - Young group that could explode, but super tough division again, they need to knock off some wins against last years champs and the powerhouse kings, plus now the revamped Knights. Avalanche are my pick to surprise, but got to see them pull off a few early wins first before I place them in the playoff picture. 14.) Jets - Goaltending will be their Achilles heel. If they solve that without giving up too much of their peripheral gold they will climb up the rankings. will need a bishop of murray injury to get full use of their previous Stars tandem. 15.) Buffalo - 6th, 8th, 15th? Solid team that killed me in heads up last year, so happy to have them outta my division. Should be rated higher to be honest but this year is gonna be crazy close so I'll drop Buffalo down and blame it on injuries and last minute goalie changes that cost him some easy points! 16.) Ottawa - Made some key moves last year on trending up, I'll put Ottawa at the end as I think they need that franchise player that a 1st will bring (Never looked to see if Ottawa still owned their 1st?) We'll say they do and they land that cornerstone piece to build around. Ottawa's not far off but again a tough division will cost them points. Holy...that was difficult. I don't know guys, this year is gonna be crazy close. I think earning an extra point or two each week by scratching and clawing will be the difference in the end. Bes tof luck to all, cause this looks to be the most competitive season yet!

Wow, that really looked tough. Interesting note, Josh has all three new owners in the top seven. Having 16 active managers will make this a fantastic season and I agree, those extra 1-2 garbage points each week will make the difference this season. Good stuff Josh!

1. Montreal Canadiens - good team, one of easier divisions
2. Minnesota Wild - stocked, and should win every goaltending cat against Central opponents
3. New York Islanders - one more year before the fall from grace
4. Los Angeles Kings - good when healthy, but improved Pacific will hurt
5. Toronto Maple Leafs - nice haul in expansion draft
6. Los Vegas Golden Knights - young but lots of potential
7. Dallas Stars - could slip with brutal goaltending, luckily have Winnipeg and St Louis goalies to compete with
8. New York Rangers - going to win it all from the 8th seed, aka Calgary 2016
9. Buffalo Sabres - could surprise, but we said that last year too
10. Calgary Flames - defending champs aren't as good as the title sounds
11. St. Louis Blues - good team, terrible goaltending
12. Philadelphia Flyers - holes in roster, but with Price anything is possible
13. New Jersey Devils - last year's injuries might have masked a dearth of talent
14. Colorado Avalanche - not enough depth to compete yet
15. Winnipeg Jets - on way to full rebuild
16. Ottawa Senators - stuck in no mans land

That's a bold prediction for Vegas Josh , but unfortunately you've got to put one of the Metro teams in the top-4 ....

Hey Josh 2.0, i think you need to Edit again as you "accidently" put me in 14th..... We are now bitter enemies..... Hahaha this was such a tough exercise! The only teams I feel terribly confident about were Minnesota, L.A and Montreal, the rest of the league is just a parity bundled free for all! Can't wait to get this started.
