Its almost that time again!
The 2018 Draft will be the first year we will have potential for 3 Draft Lottery Winners, as it was voted in favour of adopting the NHL Policy of having up to 3 teams move up in the draft. The main reason for introducing this was to curb tanking, as the bottom 8 teams in the DHL will all have a chance at having their pick win the lottery and therefor get one of the top 3 spots.
Standings (16th to 9th determined at seasons end), (8th-5th determined on seasons rank after 1st round eliminations), (4th- 1st based on playoff finals). For the Draft Lottery we will follow the NHL Draft Lottery rules; which are as follows: Each team from positions 16th-9th in the DHL will have a chance at winning the draft lottery. As many as 3 teams could have their pick chosen as a Draft lottery winner, however no single teams pick can win more then once in the DHL 2.0 Draft lottery. Each team positioned 16th-9th will be represented by NHL teams in the NHL Draft lottery. The Draft Lottery will take place on April 28th. Tune in to the live draft lottery to see who this year’s winner is! The NHL teams that correspond to the DHL teams are in parenthesis. Please note team draft picks ranked 8th - 1st (playoff team picks) can not win the draft lottery
For Example.... If DAL wins the Draft Lottery in the NHL, The Flyers would move up to the #1 pick, If DET wins the 2nd pick in the Draft Lottery PHI copuld not move up a 2nd time and the pick would be skipped, if EDM wins the 3rd pick in the Draft Lottery then Winnipeg would get the 2nd pick (Because Philly can't win twice).
Example #2. If the NHL draft lottery winners were BUF, CAR, CGY, the DHL draft would have WPG select 1st, CGY 2nd, and OTT 3rd while the Devils pick would drop to 4th leaving the rest the same etc.
Hope that makes sense to all. So stay tuned on April 28th to see which DHL teams benefit from the Draft lottery results!
