The final results will also determine waiver order and draft pick (pre-lottery) order. Please verify if any questions...
1. Minnesota Wild 2. Montreal Canadiens 3. Dallas Stars 4. NY Rangers 5. Ottawa Senators 349 6. St.Louis Blues 339 7. Buffalo Sabres 325 8. Calgary Flames 315 9. Las Vegas Golden Knights 314 10. Colorado Avalanche 298 11. Toronto Maple Leafs 278 12. Los Angeles Kings 266 13. New York Islanders 247 14. New Jersey Devils 246 15. Philadelphia Flyers 238 16. Winnipeg Jets 224

When the NHL does this similarly as teams are eliminated each round, the draft positions are determined by overall points, not by playoff seed.
ie if WPG (94 pts, 1st Central) and SJ (95 pts, 2nd Pacific) were both eliminated in Round 1, San Jose would have the lower draft pick, despite WPG winning the Central.
With that said, I'd think Calgary should be 8th on this list, not 5th as they had 315 pts to Buffalo's 325.
Agree? Disagree?

Order has been edited to reflect change in Calgary's placement and final season points added for reference.

Playoff matchups outside the top 4 only count in yahoo standings but do not alter the draft order at this point.
The breakdown looks like this...
The order of the Prospect Draft will be as follows:
#1 - 9th to 12th Place at end of season* #2 - 9th to 12th Place at end of season* #3 - 9th to 12th Place at end of season* #4 - 9th to 12th Place at end of season* #5 - 8th place in regular season #6 - 7th place in regular season #7 - 6th Place Finish- Regular Season #8 - 5th place finish - Regular Season #9 - 4th place finish - Regular Season #10 - 3rd place finish - Regular season #11 - DHL1 Runner-Up #12 - DHL1 Champion
* - The final order will be determined via draft lottery as described above

So the 3rd and 4th place matchup doesn't count as well right?

3rd and 4th would get the 13th and 14th overall pick.
I believe we changed to 3rd and 4th using playoff standings because money was now involved, hence last year dallas getting the 14th pick and montreal the 13th due to Dallas winning 3rd but Montreal having the higher point total.
Good catch!

Interesting. Doesn't really matter, just seems silly I could finish 5th in Yahoo but here I'd be 6th. Oh well

Nhl does the same, when 8 teams are left, 4 advance and 4 dont, yahoo runs a consolation round (5th to 8th) but we use NHL rules so 5rh to 8th is based on points. We do this to curb people intentionally losing when nothing is on the line to get a better draft pick.
3rd to 4th originally was also season based, but with prizes it was switched to playoff base..the rules shoulda been changed years ago in the old DHL to reflect this. We didnt want 3rd winning money (or a jersey) and getting a better draft pick then 4th. Ill update the rule to reflect this as we have been following that for a few years.

Interesting. Doesn't really matter, just seems silly I could finish 5th in Yahoo but here I'd be 6th. Oh well If you'd like the lower pick, I'm sure the owner of the OTT pick would happily oblige. You have to consider that there's no incentive to winning 5th besides bragging rights. So if the consolation bracket rolls around and only 1/4 teams actually wants to win it, you'd just be hurting your draft position, without anything tangible to gain. Ya feel me? If Yahoo would let me turn off the consolation bracket, i would lol.

Ya makes sense. I just want to finish as high as possible, but no point In paying attention any more. Though keeping teams from tanking makes more sense I suppose

Yahoo standings will still say you finished 5th, and yahoo points will award you for a 5th place finish, but draft placement is already determined here...so still bragging rights on the line!
Updated the Rule to show the 3rd 4th draft placement...should be accurate now.
The order of the Prospect Draft will be as follows:
#1 - 9th to 12th Place at end of season* #2 - 9th to 12th Place at end of season* #3 - 9th to 12th Place at end of season* #4 - 9th to 12th Place at end of season* #5 - 8th place in regular season #6 - 7th place in regular season #7 - 6th Place Finish- Regular Season #8 - 5th place finish - Regular Season #9 - 4th place finish - Playoff Finish #10 - 3rd place finish - Playoff Finish #11 - DHL1 Runner-Up #12 - DHL1 Champion

Haha...well the dhl was originally set up as a 12 team league (although it was increased to 16 before the 1st season began!), but yes it should be 16!.. Let me try this again...
